Bright, sharp and really young, she comes from an unforgettable lagoon. Lucia Pasti from the firm La Frassina in Caorle presents to #vinoumano her Refosco 2012.
La Frassina, surrounded by valleys, rivers and cultivated land, is located in Caorle, province of Venice, around ten kilometres from the sea and at the edge of Zignago Valley within the DOC Lison-Pramaggiore.
The vines grow on alluvial lime and clay-rich soil with carbonate aggregations crucial to the peculiarity and aroma of these wines.
The firm was born in 1940 on 500 hectares of drained valley land. Thanks to a network of canals, water-scooping pumps, the construction of new embankments and the refurbishment of old ones, the land has been reclaimed keeping the wellbeing of indigenous fish and birds in mind.
Starting from the year 2000, Lucia Pasti and her brother Carlo have been refurbishing an old stable turning it into a new cellar. They have also worked on the vines with new plants of Lison, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Refosco dal penduncolo rosso (red stalk). During the process, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, all the interventions that could modify the grape’s specific character are excluded. In doing so the wines get to preserve and show even seasonal characteristics.
The Refosco harvest usually happens during the third decade in September. The grapes are then vinified in steel containers where they macerate for 10-14 days at a temperature of 24-26ºC. The refinement, of around 24 months, happens in steel containers and oak barrels.
Let’s then try the Refosco (100% Refosco dal penduncolo rosso) presented by Lucia: the intense ruby red colour with purple reflexes, the rich scent of mature forest fruits (especially raspberry and blackberry). The flavour has a great structure, dry and with fine persistence. It accompany well red meat roasts, stews and medium mature cheese.
